Solar & Battery Installation Completed at Chalk Grove, Kendal
Glow Solar has recently completed another substantial domestic solar and battery installation at Chalk Grove in Kendal, helping the homeowners make the most of their property’s available roof space while adding significant energy storage and backup capability.
Working alongside Richard Lofthouse Roofing Services Ltd, the project involved installing solar panels across both the front and rear faces of the property's apex roof. This maximises the available roof area and creates an impressive 16kW solar PV system, combined with 26kWh of battery storage.
33 Aiko Solar Panels
The system comprises a huge 33 Aiko 485W solar panels, providing a total installed capacity of approximately 16kW.
Using both sides of the apex roof allowed the installation to make effective use of the property's available space, rather than limiting solar generation to a single roof aspect. With panels positioned on both the front and rear elevations, the system can capture solar energy across different periods of the day, depending on the position of the sun.
For a domestic property with substantial electricity requirements, installing a larger solar array can significantly increase the opportunity to generate and use renewable electricity on-site.
26kWh of Battery Storage
Solar generation is only one part of the equation. The Chalk Grove installation also includes 26kWh of battery storage, allowing surplus electricity generated by the panels to be stored rather than immediately exported to the grid.
That stored energy can then be used when the solar panels aren't producing enough electricity, including during the evening and overnight. Combining a large solar array with substantial battery capacity can therefore help increase the proportion of a home's electricity that comes from its own renewable generation.
The system is built around a SigEnergy 12kW hybrid inverter, which manages the flow of electricity between the solar panels, batteries and the property.
SigEnergy HomePro Gateway
The installation also includes a SigEnergy HomePro gateway, providing an additional layer of energy resilience.
The gateway enables the system to provide backup power during a grid outage, subject to the available battery capacity and the property's electrical demand at the time. The battery is a finite energy store, so the duration of backup will depend on how much electricity is being used and how long the outage lasts.
Nevertheless, having a substantial battery and dedicated backup capability can provide valuable reassurance, particularly during unexpected interruptions to the grid.
Working With Richard Lofthouse Roofing Services
As with several of Glow Solar's recent projects, the installation was completed in collaboration with Richard Lofthouse Roofing Services Ltd.
Installing panels across both sides of an apex roof requires careful coordination between the roofing and solar teams. Working closely together ensures the roof is properly prepared and that the finished solar installation is both technically effective and neatly integrated into the property.

A Complete Home Energy Solution
The Chalk Grove project demonstrates how modern domestic solar installations can go far beyond simply putting panels on a roof. By combining 33 high-output Aiko panels, a 12kW hybrid inverter, 26kWh of battery storage and a SigEnergy HomePro gateway, Glow Solar has created a comprehensive renewable energy system designed around the property's requirements.
At Glow Solar, every installation is designed around the individual property, its energy usage and the customer's objectives. Whether the priority is generating more renewable electricity, reducing reliance on the grid, making better use of battery storage or adding backup capability, the right combination of technology can make a significant difference.
We're delighted with the finished installation at Chalk Grove and pleased to have worked alongside Richard Lofthouse Roofing Services once again to deliver another high-quality solar and battery project in the Kendal area.
